The Local Series – “A Grand Re-Opening at Golden & Pine”

Since I began this blog space I have been looking forward to writing this particular post featuring Kansas City home decor shop Golden & Pine!  You see, I have a little history with this beautiful shop.  Golden & Pine, which is basically my home decor inspo and dreams all wrapped up in one perfect shop, is an integral part of the story in why I started this space dedicated to home decor and interiors.  My time at Golden & Pine (which I’ll touch a little more on down further in this post) as well as time spent with home decor visionary and owner, Stephanie Agne, and the amazing ladies that make Golden & Pine what it is, reawakened a creativity and appreciation for home decor that I had temporarily set aside while “stay-at-home momming” for my children.  I am so excited to give just a little bit back in appreciation with this post and share this one of a kind Kansas City shop with you!

I am also extremely excited to share Golden & Pine’s new space!  Less than a week ago, Golden & Pine relocated from their former Brookside digs to a shiny new space located in the Shops at Prairie Village.

If you have not yet been to Golden & Pine, the warm, contemporary aesthetic greets you immediately upon walking through the front door.  While browsing through their gorgeous selection of furnishings, accessories and home items you will quickly realize that this store is unique and special.

Owner and Kansas City native, Stephanie Agne, has created an expertly curated space dedicated to hand-made artisan goods for the home.  As you shop, take notice of the story cards attached to various furniture pieces and accessories throughout the store.  These cards give you a glimpse of the people behind the beautiful objects, the artists and workers whose story is reflected in the goods that they create.  The stories also demonstrate Stephanie’s personal passion for ethical home goods.

Golden & Pine faithfuls will be pleased to know that the new location means more space, and more space means more merchandise!  Along with store’s collection of furnishings, accessories, rugs and textiles, items for the kitchen, bath and garden, books, cards and more that one could find at the old location, the new store’s increased space allows for new lines of furnishings and accessories as well as a new potting station and the addition of baby clothing and accessories.

I asked Stephanie what her favorite thing is about the new space.  “The energy of the Village,” was her prompt response.  She said that one evening leading up to their re-opening, while she and her team were getting the shop ready, there was a group of boys kicking a soccer ball around in the courtyard behind the store.  “It’s just a good feel, family-oriented, people walking by, a positive feel,” she said.  Stephanie also expressed her excitement for being able to carry more merchandise.  “We just outgrew our old space,” she said.  She is very enthusiastic about the team she has in place at the new store and hinted of exciting events and workshops planned for the future.

Golden & Pine’s new space previously housed Bruce Smith Drugs, a local pharmacy with a history of 60 years in the same location.

After months of extensive remodeling, Golden & Pine has a beautiful new home.  One of Stephanie’s views on the home is that “every home has a story.”  This mantra is a guiding force on the wares that she chooses for her shop, goods that have a story.  In true storytelling fashion, Stephanie and her team were able to salvage some items left behind in the former pharmacy space to use in the shop, thereby keeping a bit of the legacy of the space alive.

Wooden shelves left behind now hold Golden & Pine’s vast selection of pillows.

An assortment of found metal boxes provide a textural and eye-catching display for candles, towels and bath items.

A shelving unit was given new life as a display for Golden & Pine’s “gift section” holding an assortment of popular gift items picked out by the Golden & Pine team for shoppers that are in need of a gift in a hurry.  A collection of colorful gift wrap makes for fast and easy one stop shopping.

As I promised above, I will tell you about my history with Golden & Pine.  Some time ago I came across an Instagram post from the shop looking for part-time holiday help.  I’d been out of the workforce for quite awhile, having been home with my children, but the store was a favorite of mine, in my neighborhood, the hours worked well with the juggling of two small kids and it was only for a duration of a few weeks over the holidays, so I thought, “why not?” And I sent in my resume.  After meeting with Stephanie I got the gig, and I ended up staying for over a year!  In fact you may still find me in the store from time to time filling in.  In my time at Golden & Pine I had the opportunity to work side-by-side with some amazingly talented, creative and kind women who have a true passion for what they do.  These women made me step up my creative game and for that I am very grateful.
