When the homeowners of this Kansas City, Missouri home embarked on a major renovation and remodel project they had one item at the very top of their wishlist, to create a bright and timeless master bedroom retreat. The couple’s former master bedroom did not provide much natural light, thereby making the space feel dark and the late-nineties build of the home had begun to feel dated. Working with Interior Designer, Jami Meek , the couple set out to build a new space that was full of light, open and airy, with a timeless appeal.

The homeowners had differing tastes in decor, with the wife favoring more feminine touches while the husband skewed more masculine in his design preferences. Jami was able to merge both styles by creating a space dubbed “Minimalist Luxe” with a nod to the bright and clean look of a California-feel inspired design.

A soothing palette of whites, grey, and navy anchor the space. Furnishings were kept simple and clean-lined with muted bed linens in favor of the husband’s tastes. Layerings of pillows, throws, plants and a show-stopping chandelier bring in the wife’s design aesthetic.
The end result is a space that has become a serene retreat for the homeowners. Gone is the dated and dark bedroom from before and, in its place, is a space that is classic and can be easily adapted as the homeowner’s design tastes evolve and change over time.
